DMCA and Copyright Policy

Rental Awareness respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects others to respect the intellectual property rights associated with our content.

This page explains how to notify us if you believe material available on Rental Awareness infringes your copyright, how counter notifications work, and what we do when we receive a complaint. Our Content

Articles, explanations, comparisons, page layouts, and other original material published on Rental Awareness are our own work unless otherwise noted. We ask that this content not be republished in whole or in substantial part without permission.

Short quotations with clear attribution and a link back to the original article are generally acceptable. Copying entire articles, rewriting them lightly and republishing them, or reproducing our material in a way that substitutes for the original is not.

Statutes, regulations, court opinions, and other government works are generally not subject to our copyright, and we make no claim over the underlying legal texts we describe. Our explanations, organization, and commentary about those texts are our own. Our Editorial Policy describes how that material is researched and written.

Reporting Alleged Infringement

If you believe that material available on Rental Awareness infringes your copyright, you may contact us with a copyright infringement notice.

A copyright notice should include enough information for us to identify the copyrighted work and the specific material you believe is infringing. Vague complaints are difficult to act on, and incomplete notices may delay our review.

Where applicable, a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act should include:

  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed, or a representative list if multiple works are involved.
  3. Identification of the material you believe is infringing, along with information reasonably sufficient to locate it on the website, such as the specific URL and a description of the passage or image in question.
  4. Your contact information, including an email address and, where appropriate, a mailing address or telephone number.
  5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

Using this subject line helps make sure your notice is routed correctly and reviewed promptly.

What Happens After We Receive a Notice

When we receive a complete notice, we review the material identified and the claim made. Depending on the outcome of that review, we may remove or disable access to the material, edit the material, add attribution, or explain why we believe the use is permitted.

We may also contact you for clarification if the notice is incomplete or if the material identified cannot be located. Removing or restricting access to material in response to a notice is not an admission of liability or an acknowledgment that infringement occurred.

We aim to handle valid notices promptly. Because we are a small site, response times can vary, but complete notices are much faster to process than incomplete ones.

Counter Notification

If content was removed or disabled because of a copyright complaint and you believe that removal was made in error or as a result of misidentification, you may submit a counter notification where permitted by applicable law.

A valid counter notification generally requires:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before removal.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address, and telephone number.
  5. A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the appropriate court, and consenting to accept service of process from the party who submitted the original notice or that party’s agent.

Counter notifications may be sent to the same address, using the subject line DMCA Counter Notification.

False or Abusive Claims

Please do not submit a copyright complaint unless you have a legitimate basis for believing that your copyrighted work has been infringed.

Knowingly submitting materially false information in a copyright notice or counter notification may have legal consequences, including liability for damages and costs under applicable law. Copyright notices should not be used to remove factual information, unfavorable commentary, criticism, or content you simply disagree with. If you believe an article is factually wrong, that is a correction request rather than a copyright claim, and it should go through our contact page. Facts, legal requirements, and statutory text are not protected by copyright.

Repeat Infringers

Where applicable, we may terminate access, remove content, or take other appropriate action in circumstances involving repeat infringement.

Third Party Content

Some pages may contain links to or references to material hosted elsewhere. Rental Awareness does not control websites operated by third parties.

If the allegedly infringing material is hosted on another website, you may also need to contact the operator or hosting provider of that website directly, since removing a link on our site does not remove the underlying material.

Requesting Permission
